The City of Sheboygan has reached an agreement to purchase the former Boston Store property, giving city leaders control of a site they view as critical to redeveloping the downtown.

The Common Council approved the $500,000 purchase from a California-based real estate investment firm on Monday night following a closed session discussion, and the sale is now expected to close within the next two to three months.

“Taking control of that piece of property was probably the most important thing for the revitalization of the downtown,” Amodeo said.

The property was sold several months later to Oakbrook Corporation to construct The Encore Apartments, Sheboygan’s first urban, luxury apartment project.
